SYNOPSIS:
The course gives emphasis on the human comfort criteria in built environment, architecture and building designs. The scope of the architecture solutions may be illustrated by the use of appropriate technological solutions in architecture design. This subject focuses on the needs of comfort lightings, acoustics in buildings, environment and energy.

OBJECTIVES:
• To introduce the concept of sustainable environmental living, energy demand, consumption and environmental impact in building and built environment.
• To discuss the concept and influence of lightings as an architectural elements.
• To discuss the concept and important of acoustics on architecture and building design.
• To explore lightings and acoustics design possibilities and solutions.
• To explore possible integration of natural resources & low energy technology in building.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
(from student’s perspective)
• Able to outline basic architectural design principles contributing to human comfort using bioclimatic indexes and other standard design parameters.
• Able to anticipate as a designer the aspect of human comfort in simple architectural solution.
• Able to apply climatic responsive design in related studio project.
• Able to work in the team through project assignment.
• Able to communicate project assignment effectively in written and verbal forms.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY:
The teaching and learning are in the form of series of formal lectures; structured group presentation and group report writing, individual written assignment as well as quiz and short test.
